Environmental Lubricants Manufacturing was formed in 2000 to commercialize bio-based lubricants and greases that had been created at the University of Northern Iowa’s National Agricultural-Based Lubricants Center. The UNI-NABL was founded in 1991, by Professor Lou Honary who is currently the ELM Chairman and President. For over two decades the UNI-NABL Center was a premier biobased lubricant technology developer with funding support from Soybean Growers of Iowa, USDA, DOE, and private agriculture industry.
Dr. Honary, is world-renowned expert and advocate for biobased lubricants technologies and with him ELM benefits from years of research and products developed at the University of Northern lowa's National Agriculture-Based Lubricants Center under his directorship. Honary has numerous publications including book chapters and a book on Biobased Lubricants and Greases.He has 10 patents on biobased products and is also a co-inventer of the process of using microwaves for manufacturing grease.Thanks to his invention,ELM now offers superior performing biobased grease products at prices that are in parity with petroleum-based greases.
